- recruiters should show up at local tech conferences in their own city, not just work job boards all day
- you do not need to travel the country, just attend events in your hometown to start building relationships
- if your company will not pay for a conference, ask to volunteer so you can still get in the door
- after meeting someone, connect on their most active social channel right away instead of relying on a business card
- keep networking simple, introduce yourself, ask what they do, trade contact info, and move on
