- carry something like a tap card or qr code to cut networking friction at conferences and meetups
- pick about five talks and five people to meet at a conference instead of trying to do everything
- at local meetups narrow down to around ten people to connect with so you do not burn out
- start networking before layoffs happen by sending one or two dms a day to people in your field
- build community around something you are already passionate about and keep the first group small
