- go after mentorship yourself instead of waiting for a mentor to reach out to you
- connect with people you admire in your field on twitter and linkedin, then follow, comment, and like their posts before asking for anything
- when you reach out be specific about what you want to learn instead of just asking someone to mentor you in general
- offer something of value or help first so you end up in that person's circle before asking for mentorship
- come prepared with good questions and drive the conversation yourself instead of expecting the mentor to lead it
